Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center Awarded $1.5M in Cancer Research Funding

Will Parsons, Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Hematology-Oncology, Baylor College of Medicine, shared an honoring post on LinkedIn:

“We’re proud to highlight faculty at Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center who have been awarded over $1.5 million in new research funding.

The projects are advancing novel immunotherapies, targeting metabolic and genetic drivers of cancer, improving models for AML and neuroblastoma, and enhancing precision medicine for effective treatments, better outcomes, and improved long-term survivorship care.

Principal investigators (pictured L-R, top to bottom rows) and projects are listed below:

• Arianexys Aquino Lopez, MD, PhD | St. Baldrick’s Foundation: Exploring virus-specific T cells and oncolytic adenovirus combinations for osteosarcoma

• Eveline Barbieri, MD, PhD | Diana Helis Henry Medical Research Foundation: Studying lipid metabolism in MYCN-driven neuroblastoma

• Lisa Bouchier-Hayes, PhD | The National Institutes of Health: Modeling caspase-2 deficient nucleophosmin-mutated AML

• Marco Gallo, PhD | Ependymoma Research Foundation: Single-cell genomic mapping of EZHIP function

• Tamra Ogilvie, PhD | Sam Day Foundation: Investigating RNA splicing in medulloblastoma metastasis

• Deborah I. Ritter, PhD | PTEN Research: Coordinating the ClinGen PTEN Variant Curation Expert Panel

• Alexandra Stevens, MD | The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society: Pediatric AML patient-derived xenograft program• Mark Zobeck, MD, MPH | The Fund for Innovation in Cancer Informatics (ICI): Predicting cardiotoxicity using integrated clinical-genomic platforms

A huge thank you to our funding partners, collaborators, and the entire Texas Children’s community for supporting this vital work to improve the lives of children with cancer and blood disorders.

Texas Children’s Hospital and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center are joining forces to launch the Kinder Children’s Cancer Center in 2026.”
