Estelle Carminita։ What If the Origin of Platelet Dysfunction Starts in the Bone Marrow
Estelle Carminita, Research Fellow at Boston Children’s Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, adding:
”I’m thrilled to share that our latest study has been published in Blood Advances Blood Journals Portfolio!
In patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), the risk of thrombotic events is markedly increased; yet the mechanisms underlying platelet dysfunction remain incompletely understood. While platelet abnormalities in CKD have traditionally been attributed to circulating uremic toxins, we asked a different question:
What if the origin of platelet dysfunction starts in the bone marrow?
I’m incredibly grateful to my collaborators and mentors Joseph Italiano, Kellie Machlus, Abolfazl Zarjou, who made this work possible.”
