Bhalchandra Kawdikar: FDA Approves Rusfertide for Polycythemia Vera
Bhalchandra Kawdikar, Vice President International Marketing at Edge Pharma (merchant Exporter), shared a post on LinkedIn:
”FDA Approves MIMRYLO Marking a Potential Shift in the Treatment Paradigm for Polycythemia Vera Aug 28, 2026.
Why it matters: New hope in reducing the risk of life-threatening conditions due to chronic blood cancer.
PV is a chronic blood cancer. In PV RBC’s are overproduced, increasing the blood viscosity.
This can result in life threatening thrombotic events such as stroke, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.
Takeda’s Mimrylo (Rusfertide) is a first-in-class SC Inj. It mimics the action of hepcidin, (a natural hormone that regulates iron homeostasis and erythrocytosis).
By targeting the underlying mechanism of iron dysregulation MIMRYLO aims reduces excess RBC production and helps maintain hematocrit control.”
