Jan T. Kielstein: DNP Poisoning and Hemoadsorption The Limits of Rescue Therapy
Jan T. Kielstein, Director of Braunschweig Municipal Medical Center, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, Toxicology Reports, adding:
”When the illegal ‘fat burner’ 2,4 Dinitrophenol (DNP) is about to kill you – don’t hope for hemoadsorption as rescue therapy.
Florian A. Kammerstetter and Alix Buhlmann report a dramatic case of a 22 year old man that ingested 800 mg DNP and hardly survived thanks to excellent critical care. Extracorporeal treatments were futile in removing the highly protein bound DNP.”
Title: 2,4-dinitrophenol intoxication: Lack of adsorption despite prior literature suggesting efficacy
