Heghine Khachatryan: Strengthening CML Care in Armenia
Heghine Khachatryan, Editor-in-Chief of Hemostasis Today, Head of Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center at Yeolyan Hematology and Oncology Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Strengthening CML Care in Armenia
For many years, physicians in Armenia faced significant challenges in monitoring people living with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) due to the lack of access to proper diagnostics.
As Dr. Karen Meliksetyan highlights, the introduction of PCR testing has transformed patient care, enabling Armenian hematologists to provide accurate monitoring and improve treatment outcomes.
This progress would not have been possible without strong partnerships and the continuous efforts of organizations like The Max Foundation, which ensure that patients in LMICs have access not only to life-saving therapies but also to essential diagnostics.
Access to diagnostics is just as critical as access to medicines—together, they empower physicians to deliver optimal care.”
Quoting The Max Foundation‘s post:
“For many years in Armenia, physicians did not have an opportunity to monitor people living with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). As Dr. Karen Meliksetyan explains, when they received the Cepheid machine and diagnostic kits and started monitoring, he began educating all CML patients to ask their treating physicians for tests.
Regular monitoring through diagnostic tests enables physicians to provide educational insights to people living with CML about their condition and treatment. Thanks to having the tools to do so, now, all the physicians at the Yeolyan Hematology and Oncology Center, Ministry of Health of Armenia are doing tests and monitoring for their CML patients regularly! ”
