ISTH Names Five Global Recipients of 2026 Esteemed Career Awards
The ISTH proudly announces the recipients of its 2026 Esteemed Career Awards, honoring leaders in thrombosis and hemostasis whose life-long achievements have shaped the field through scientific excellence.
The annual award recipients are selected by peers in the field and represent exemplary models of scientific leadership, clinical excellence, mentorship and global collaboration.
The 2026 Esteemed Career Award recipients are as follows:
- Maria das Graças Carvalho, Ph.D., Federal University of Minas Gerais and Federal University of São João Del Rei (Brazil)
- Susan R. Kahn, M.D., McGill University (Canada)
- Michael Laffan, D.M., Imperial College London (United Kingdom)
- Paolo Prandoni, M.D., Ph.D., Arianna Foundation on Anticoagulation (Italy)
- Philip Wells, M.D., M.Sc., University of Ottawa and The Ottawa Hospital (Canada)
‘Each recipient of the Esteemed Career Award has made lasting contributions to advance both scientific discovery and clinical care in thrombosis and hemostasis,’ said ISTH President Pantep Angchaisuksiri, M.D. ‘We are proud to recognize their collective contributions, which exemplify the excellence and global collaboration that defines the ISTH community.’
The Esteemed Career Awards will be presented at the ISTH 2026 Congress, taking place July 11–15, 2026, in Paris, France.
The ISTH will publish a spotlight article series featuring the award recipients in the coming weeks.
