Katie Harris and Colleagues: Coagulation Factors VIII and IX as Predictors of Cardiovascular Events and Mortality

Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH) shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Coagulation factors VIII and IX as predictors of cardiovascular events and mortality

Elevated coagulation factor levels are increasingly recognized as markers of vascular risk, yet their independent contribution to cardiovascular disease (CVD) outcomes remains debated.

In this meta-analysis (32,123 participants; 8,888 CVD cases), each SD increase in FVIII was associated with a 12% higher CVD risk and 16–17% higher CVD and all-cause mortality. FIX showed weaker associations—linked to mortality but not incident CVD.
