Every day worldwide, ๐ณ๐ญ๐ฎ ๐๐ผ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ฒ from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. Nearly ๐๐๐ผ-๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฑ๐ of these deaths occur in fragile, conflict-affected countries.
A new ๐จ๐ก ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ shows maternal deaths have dropped ๐ฐ๐ฌ% ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฌ. Progress? Yesโbut far from equal. Many ๐น๐ผ๐- ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐บ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐น๐ฒ-๐ถ๐ป๐ฐ๐ผ๐บ๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐๐ป๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ (๐๐ ๐๐๐), especially in sub-Saharan Africa, are still facing worsening trends.
๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐ฟ๐บ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฑ๐ ๐ถ๐ป ๐ต๐ถ๐ด๐ต-๐ฏ๐๐ฟ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ป ๐๐ณ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฐ๐ผ๐๐ป๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ๐:
- ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ฎ: MMR โ 530 per 100,000 live births (55% increase )
- ๐ก๐ถ๐ด๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฎ: MMR โ 1,047 per 100,000 (14% increase), ~๐ณ๐ฑ,๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ต๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ป๐๐ฎ๐น๐น๐, the highest globally
- ๐๐ฅ ๐๐ผ๐ป๐ด๐ผ: MMR โ 547 per 100,000 (16% increase)
๐ฃ๐ผ๐๐๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐๐๐บ ๐ต๐ฒ๐บ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ต๐ฎ๐ด๐ฒ (๐ฃ๐ฃ๐) is the ๐น๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฒ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐บ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ป๐ฎ๐น ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ต ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐น๐ฑ๐๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ (~๐ฎ๐ฑ%), and in sub-Saharan Africa, ๐๐ฝ ๐๐ผ ๐ด๐ฌ% ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ฃ๐ฃ๐ ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ต๐ are due to lack of timely blood transfusions, hypoxia and hemorrhagic shock.
