Alan Nurden: New Review Highlights the Importance of Mitochondria in Platelet Function
Alan Nurden, Emeritus Research Director at CNRS, Co-Founder of the French National Reference Centre for Inherited Platelet Disorders (CRPP), shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Camila Velandia Franco et al., published in Free Radical Biology and Medicine, adding:
“Mitochondria are often forgotten when discussing platelet biology and/or pathology.
In fact, they are key elements in determining platelet function and its dysregulation.
In this review from Eduardo Fuentes and his colleagues, their many roles are clearly presented and in particular in their action in determining platelet functional heterogeneity.
The review is comprehensive and written with clarity, bringing to light the importance of mitochondria in fundamental aspects of platelet biology such as aggregation, secretion and procoagulant activity.
It is unique in its field, nothing is forgotten.
Whether you are interested in the molecular mechanisms of platelet function, in acquired disorders with inflammation and/or a cardiovascular context then you should read it.
Congratulations on an outstanding review. Highly recommended.”
