Domenico Simone Castiello: Rethinking Prolonged DAPT in Multivessel PCI – Insights from the DAPT-MVD Trial
Domenico Simone Castiello, Graduate Research Fellow at Cardialysis, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in NEJM, adding:
“Just published in the New England Journal of Medicine! NEJM Group
How long should dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) be continued after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)?
Despite decades of research, finding the optimal balance between ischemic protection and bleeding risk remains one of the most relevant challenges in interventional cardiology.
The recently published DAPT-MVD trial (https://lnkd.in/eWmurJfv) in the New England Journal of Medicine NEJM Group provides important new evidence, suggesting that prolonged DAPT may offer additional ischemic protection in selected patients with multivessel coronary artery disease, without a significant increase in bleeding events.
But how should these findings influence contemporary clinical practice?
And how far can we extend their implications to broader patient populations?
Together with Dr. Ernest Spitzer I am pleased to share our recently published Letter to the Editor in the New England Journal of Medicine NEJM Group, contributing to the scientific discussion surrounding this important trial and the interpretation of its findings.
Read our correspondence here:
Where do we go from here?
Does DAPT-MVD make the case for prolonged DAPT, or is it time to rethink aspirin monotherapy as the comparator in future trials?
Your thoughts are welcome!”
