Fahad Alshehri: Are All Platelets Created Equal?

Fahad Alshehri, Consultant at King Faisal Medical City for Southern Regions, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleague co-authored, published in Blood Science, adding:

“Are all platelets created equal?

Historically viewed as a homogeneous cell population, emerging evidence shows that platelet subsets exhibit distinct activation thresholds, pharmacologic profiles, and specialized roles in vascular integrity and clot formation.

Our review paper, ‘Platelet subpopulations and contribution to hemostasis,’ is out now in Blood Science journal.

We summarize key subpopulation markers, resolve methodological challenges, and outline the future of precision antiplatelet therapy.

Grateful to the editorial team and my co-author ‏‏Ruba Ziyad‏‏ for bringing this synthesis together.”
