Gregory Makris: NEJM Study Supports Earlier Catheter-Directed Intervention in Intermediate-High–Risk PE

Gregory Makris, Innovation and Applied Research Lead of Global Medical Affairs at Bayer, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Josef Kroupa et al, published in The New England Journal of Medicine, adding:

“A notable new NEJM Group trial in intermediate-high-risk PE.

Early catheter-directed thrombolysis plus anticoagulation reduced 7-day death, recurrent PE, or clinical deterioration versus anticoagulation alone (0.7 percent versus 6.8 percent).

Not for every patient—but an important step towards earlier, better-targeted catheter-based intervention.”
