Haemnet Showcases Research on Severe Haemophilia A Patients Adapting to Emicizumab Therapy
Haemnet posted on LinkedIn:
”Shared decision-making is a real buzzword in modern haemophilia care. But how do you ensure that it moves beyond lip service to truly empower patients in decisions about their treatment?
This question underlies a new paper in The Journal of Haemophilia Practice, exploring the experience of people with haemophilia A switching from factor VIII prophylaxis to emicizumab.
The authors conducted in-depth qualitative interviews with participants with severe haemophilia A without FVIII inhibitors from the Swedish cohort of the HemiNorth 2 study. Alongside the process of ‘adapting to a new reality’ and a sense of normality, they found that ‘shattered expectations’ emerged as a key theme, highlighting gaps in knowledge among the patient group and the need to ensure that appropriate, patient-friendly information dis available to support treatment decisions.
