Maciej Banach: Ischemic Stroke is a Significant Global Health Challenge
Maciej Banach, Vice-Rector for the Collegium Medicum at John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, shared on LinkedIn:
”Ischemic Stroke is a significant global health challenge, accounting for approximately 66% of all strokes worldwide
Recent data indicates that stroke was the third leading cause of death (10.7 % of all deaths), following ischemic heart disease IHD and COVID19.
In 2021, nearly 94 million people were living with the consequences of a stroke, and about 12 million new cases were reported
The issue is we cannot still effectively prevent the first and recurrent stroke (there are still 74 thousands strokes in Poland annually), thus the International Lipid Expert Panel (ILEP) in collaboration with the experts of the European Society of Cardiology Council on Stroke, has prepared a practical guidance on how to prevent stroke with optimal combination lipid lowering therapy LLT both in primary and secondary prevention.
Thanks to everyone for an amazing collaboration at this paper.”
