Anemia of Chronic Disease Revisited: Hepcidin Dysregulation, Erythropoietic Failure, and Emerging Roles of SGLT2 Inhibition
In this review, we revisit anemia of chronic disease through the integrated framework of hepcidin dysregulation, iron sequestration, and inflammatory suppression of erythropoiesis. We also discuss the potential role of SGLT2 inhibitors as a physiologic adjunct in the treatment of ACD, through modulation of iron handling, erythropoietic signaling, and inflammatory pathways.
