Shady Abohashem։ The Impact of Stress and Hormonal Regulation on Cardiovascular Risk in Women
Shady Abohashem, Associate Editor at American Journal of Preventive Cardiology, Head of Cardiac PET and CT Imaging Trials at Massachusetts General Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in JAMA Network Open, adding:
”Sharing latest work from our group, published in JAMA Network Open!
‘Hormonal Contraceptive Use, Stress Disorders, and Cardiovascular and Thrombotic Risk in Women’ – led by Antonia Seligowski and team, this study tackles a question that has been understudied for far too long: how do stress-related psychiatric conditions intersect with sex-specific factors like hormonal contraception to shape women’s cardiovascular health?
Using data from more than 31,800 women, we found that combined hormonal contraceptive use was associated with lower cardiovascular risk in women with depression or anxiety, but these protective associations did not extend to women with PTSD.
A finding that points to unique cardiovascular processes worth much deeper investigation.”
