Shruti Kharat: Closing the Gap in Early Detection of Factor VIII Inhibitors
Shruti Kharat, Senior Research Fellow and QM at K. J. Somaiya Hospital and Research Centre, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in JTH adding:
”I’m excited to share our latest publication titled:
‘A rapid point-of-care test for diagnosis of factor VIII inhibitors in haemophilia A patients’, published in Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis
For patients with haemophilia A, treatment can suddenly become ineffective when the body develops inhibitors against factor VIII.
Detecting these inhibitors early is critical, but existing tests are often slow and require specialized labs.
This challenge inspired our work.
We developed a rapid, accessible point-of-care test aimed at bringing diagnostics closer to the patient, reducing delays and enabling faster clinical decisions.
Timely diagnosis can directly influence treatment outcomes, especially in regions where access to advanced laboratory facilities is limited.
I’m also happy to share that this invention has received a provisional patent number and is currently protected under intellectual property (IP).
This publication represents an important step in my journey toward translating research into real-world healthcare solutions.
Deeply thankful to my mentor Shrimati Shetty, co-authors Fiza Jivani, Kranti Patil, Gurpreet Kaur Saini, Anam Dhawlarker and Juili Bharankar for the team work and constant support.
I would also like to thank K J Somaiya Hospital and Research Centre for providing us with a wornderful infrastructure and lab facility.”
