Wolfgang Miesbach: 5-Year CBDR Data Confirms Emicizumab Safety and Efficacy in Hemophilia A
Wolfgang Miesbach, Head of Hemostasis/Hemophilia Center at Medical Clinic 2 at University Hospital Frankfurt, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Five years of real-world emicizumab data, and a question that goes well beyond emicizumab.
Long-term data from the Canadian Bleeding Disorders Registry: 710 people with haemophilia A, followed for up to five years:
- Mean ABR fell from 1.00 to 0.47
- 61.8% had no recorded bleed
- Two thrombotic events, no TMA, no new safety signal
- These results are reassuring and consistent with HAVEN.
But the baseline matters: most patients started from an ABR of 1.0 on FVIII prophylaxis.
As Cedric Hermans argues in the accompanying commentary, ABR is approaching its floor.
Halving a rate that is already close to zero tells us less and less about how one effective therapy differs from another.
Congratulations to the CBDR team and Alfonso Iorio.”
