Camila V. Blair and Colleagues on The Association of CAD by Coronary CT Angiography and Cardiovascular Outcomes in Psoriatic Disease
Camila V. Blair, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, reposted from American Journal of Preventive Cardiology on LinkedIn:
”Our manuscript is out!
Thrilled to share our latest publication in the American Journal of Preventive Cardiology
Among patients with psoriatic disease (PsO) referred for coronary CT angiography (CCTA):
- Both non-obstructive and obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD) were highly prevalent and associated with a stepwise increase in major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE).
- Risk of MACE rose with increasing plaque burden, and obstructive CAD remained significantly associated with MACE after traditional CV risk factors adjustment.
- Participants with coronary plaque often had low estimated 10-year ASCVD risk scores, below thresholds for statin initiation, revealing a gap between traditional risk prediction and true atherosclerotic burden in individuals with psoriasis.
Our findings reinforce the need for interdisciplinary strategies for prevention, bridging dermatology, rheumatology, and cardiology, to better identify and manage cardiovascular risk in immune-mediated inflammatory diseases.
Grateful to collaborate with this incredible team led by Jonathan Aun, Ron Blankstein, Brittany Weber.”
Quoting American Journal of Preventive Cardiology‘s post:
”New study: Coronary CT angiography reveals that coronary artery disease is strongly linked to adverse cardiovascular outcomes in patients with psoriatic disease.”
