Rebecca Thompson on Caregiving Roles in Hemophilia Community

Rebecca Thompson, Writer at HarperCollins Publishers, Volunteer Physician at Special Olympics, shared on LinkedIn:

”What caregiving roles have you played in your family and in your community?

What parts of caregiving have you chosen over the course of your life, and which parts have chosen you?

How do you reconcile the inevitable moments in which caregiving can feel like both an honor and a burden?

November, as National Family Caregivers Month, is a great time to recognize the caregiving roles that each of us take on and to take time to listen to the stories of those in our communities who hold extra caregiving responsibilities–especially women and mothers caring for family members with complex medical needs.

Erin’s story in Held Together explores her experience as a child growing up in a family affected by hemophilia during the beginning of the HIV epidemic, and then as an adult learning to advocate for the next generation of kids with this disorder–including her own son–guided by the lessons that her mother taught her about caregiving….

Thank you to Caregiver Action Network, National Council on Aging, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), and Administration for Community Living for their ongoing work and advocacy, especially around this year’s theme plug into care, and to the What Fresh Hell podcast for their thoughtful, empowering recent conversation in support of caregivers everywhere.”
