Eugene Tang Presents Highlights from UK Stroke Forum 2025

Eugene Tang, NIHR RRDN NENC Primary Care Settings Lead at NIHR Research Delivery Network, shared on LinkedIn:

”Day 2 Highlights from UK Stroke Forum (UKSF25)!

SSNAP Power!
Having worked with SSNAP data, I can honestly say this is one of the most powerful tools for those passionate about real-world clinical data and stroke care.

Huge THANK YOU to all patients and teams contributing — advancing solutions for real clinical challenges!

Cognition Matters!
Obviously biased here, but what a mind-opening session!

  • Eirini Kontou reminded us why building evidence for cognitive rehab is KEY.
  • Terry Quinn highlighted the importance of detecting delirium post-stroke — I’m adding 4AT to my toolkit and more research ideas have been sparked!
  • Nele Demeyere, as always, gave us a sharp overview of cognition post-stroke and its daily impact.
  • And the brilliant Faye Tabone shared year 1 results from her Stroke Association-funded PhD — what an incredible amount of work done already!

She reminded us that cognition is always PRESENT—time to empower our AHPs to embed this into rehab with confidence.

Medical Workforce Crisis

Stroke as a specialty faces a distinct workforce crisis.

Reflecting on my own career switch, limited exposure during the early years of under and postgraduate training must play a big role.

Stroke offers hyperacute to subacute multidisciplinary care — a truly unique specialty!

Could GPs play a bigger role in subacute stroke care? I know portfolio GPs work as specialty doctors in other areas… why not stroke?

Would love to see this discussed more.

Thanks Michelle Dharmasiri for sparking this and taking this forwards!

As always, a fantastic conference, thanks to those at the Stroke Association — so great to reconnect with friends, colleagues, and new connections.

Can’t wait for the next UK Stroke Forum!”
