Precision Medicine in Breast Medicine: A Real Change for Thousands of Women

”Precision medicine in Breast Medicine: a real change for thousands of women.
As Director of the Integrated Breast Center of the Gemelli Polyclinic, I see every day how scientific innovation can concretely transform the treatment path of our patients.
- Genomic tests, such as Oncotype DX, are rewriting the therapeutic approach to hormone-responsive breast cancers, which account for more than 70% of diagnoses.
- These tools help us understand who really benefits from chemotherapy and who can be safely treated with hormone therapy alone.
The result?
Thousands of women can avoid unnecessarily heavy treatments without reducing the effectiveness of treatment.
It is a decisive step forward in terms of quality of life, sustainability and personalization of treatment.
We continue to work – together with colleagues in Precision Medicine and National Research Groups – to further expand their use, even in the pre-operative phase, and to define increasingly personalized therapeutic strategies.
Precision medicine is not the future: it is already here. And it’s changing the lives of our patients, one treatment decision at a time.
