Heghine Khachatryan Highlights a Patient-Friendly Breakthrough: Finger-Prick Micro-Sampling for Platelet Function
Heghine Khachatryan, Editor-in-Chief of Hemostasis Today, Head of Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center at Yeolyan Hematology and Oncology Center, quoted Platelets Journal’s post on LinkedIn:
“Recently published in Platelets – a very interesting paper on ‘Improved micro-sampling methodology enables accurate platelet function analysis.’
Conventional platelet function tests usually require venous blood and relatively large sample volumes, which is often challenging in:
• children and low-weight patients
• patients with difficult venous access
• individuals with anemia or significant comorbidities
This study demonstrates that a simple finger-prick micro-sampling approach can provide reliable data for platelet function analysis while using only a very small volume of blood.
Such methodologies can:
• facilitate platelet research in vulnerable populations
• support more patient-friendly monitoring
• open the door for broader use of functional platelet testing in routine clinical practice and clinical trials”
