Shreya Agrawal: Top 5 Practical Hematology Lessons from 2025 – Mild Cytopenias are Rarely “Incidental” and More
Dr Shreya Agrawal, Consultant Hematologist and Bone marrow transplant physician at S. L. Raheja Hospital – A Fortis Associate, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Top 5 Practical Hematology Lessons from 2025
As 2025 comes to a close, everyday clinical practice reinforced a few important truths in hematology:
- Mild cytopenias are rarely “incidental”
Persistent anemia, thrombocytopenia, or leukopenia—especially in older adults—often represents early marrow pathology rather than age-related change. - Trends matter more than single reports
A stable pattern over time provides far more diagnostic value than one CBC within reference range. - Molecular tests are tools, not shortcuts
NGS and advanced panels are most useful when guided by clinical suspicion and careful patient selection. - Treatment decisions are increasingly biology-driven
Risk stratification, disease trajectory, and patient fitness now guide therapy more than absolute counts alone. - Supportive care shapes outcomes
Transfusion strategy, infection prevention, and thrombosis management directly influence survival and quality of life.
2025 was a reminder that good hematology is built on observation, follow-up, and thoughtful intervention. Looking ahead to applying these lessons with greater precision in 2026.”
