Anirban Sen Gupta Presents PlateChek
Anirban Sen Gupta, Wallace R. Persons Professor of Engineering in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University, shared on LinkedIn:
”Thrilled to start the year reporting a new diagnostic technology named PlateChek, that can rapidly assess platelet-dependent hemostatic capability in whole blood using < 10 uL of sample volume.
This innovative system provides unique portable (and potentially field-deployable) capability for coagulation assessment with high sensitivity and specificity to both platelet number and platelet function defects, utilizing novel bioactive surface-coated electrodes.
The platform operates on the principles of Dielectric Spectroscopy, which in this case is directly influenced by platelet-mediated Clot Contraction deforming RBCs.
The readouts can be analyzed via AI/ML algorithms for high fidelity rapid diagnostics.
This technology can guide Precision Transfusion of platelet (and platelet-mimetic) products for Hemorrhage Control.

The research was led by Dante Disharoon in a collaborative endeavor between Pedram Mohseni lab and Sen Gupta Lab at Case Western Reserve University Department of Biomedical Engineering, Case School of Engineering at Case Western Reserve University, with Sanjay Ahuja at Innovative Hematology, Inc. and Matthew D. Neal at Pittsburgh Trauma and Transfusion Medicine Research Center.
We are grateful to Department of War Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs for supporting this work!”
