Erica Sparkenbaugh: PAR1 Modulation with Parmodulins Shows Promise in Sickle Cell Disease
Erica Sparkenbaugh, Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and Nirupama Ramadas co-authored, adding:
”Nirupama Ramadas and I are pleased to share our latest findings, published in American Society of Hematology journal Blood Journals Portfolio ‘Blood Advances.’
Here we demonstrate that therapeutic modulation of protease activated receptor 1 (PAR1) with parmodulins reduces thromboinflammatory markers and acute chest syndrome in a murine model of sickle cell disease. We are very excited to see where this story goes.
Thank you to Chris Dockendorff and Jacob DeRousse for their fantastic ongoing collaboration. And shout out to my amazing trainees, Joshua Dutton, Kailyn Lowder who performed experiments for this paper as undergrads. They are both in graduate programs now, and I could not be more proud!
Final thanks to Claire K. and Rani Sellers for their veterinary pathology skills.”
