How Clinicians Prioritize Factors in Red Blood Cell Transfusions While Following Guidelines – AABB
Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies (AABB) shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Aishwarya Katiki et al. published in Transfusion:
“AABB guidelines recommend a restrictive red blood cell transfusion strategy for most patient populations, while emphasizing the importance of considering individual signs, symptoms and clinical context when making transfusion decisions.
How do clinicians prioritize these factors in practice?
A survey of inpatient providers at UChicago Medicine explored which factors clinicians consider most important when deciding whether to transfuse.
Among 30 potential decision factors, seven were rated ‘very important’ by more than two-thirds of respondents, including five hemoglobin-related factors.”
José Antonio García Erce, Director of the Donation Center at Navarre Health Service (Osasunbidea), shared this post on LinkedIn:
“Are the criteria Restrictive?
No, they are obvious criteria!
It is Scientific and Ethical evidence!”
