Riccardo Fumagalli: Long Term Complications Following Catheter Directed Thrombolysis in PE

Riccardo Fumagalli, Internal Medicine Resident at GZO Spital Wetzikon, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, adding:

“What are the long-term complications after catheter-directed thrombolysis for intermediate- and high-risk pulmonary embolism?

  • Post-PE impairment: 6.9%
  • CTEPH: 2.7%
  • CTEPD: 0.8%

Here the results from a homogenous cohort of patients treated between 2018 and 2024 and followed-up according to the 2019 ESC guidelines on pulmonary embolism”

Title: Post-pulmonary embolism cardiac impairment and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension after ultrasound-assisted catheter-directed thrombolysis for acute pulmonary embolism

Authors: Riccardo M. Fumagalli, Stephanie Zbinden, Silvia Cardi, Aline Fürbringer-Schwarz, Olivier A. Gyolay, Davide Voci, Frederikus A. Klok, Stavros V. Konstantinides, Conrad Von Stempel, Nils Kucher, Stefano Barco
