Ramy Abdelnaby: Telestroke Rounds Show Superior Guideline Adherence in Subacute Care
Ramy Abdelnaby, Consultant Neurologist / Oberarzt at RWTH Aachen University Hospital, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article by Janina Behrens et al, published in JAMA Neurology:
”An important new study in JAMA Neurology highlights the growing role of telemedicine in inpatient stroke care.
In a prospective multicenter study across German telestroke networks, teleneurological ward rounds for subacute stroke care were found to be not only noninferior, but even superior to on-site neurological consultations with regard to adherence to guideline-based quality indicators.
This is highly relevant for daily clinical practice.
Access to neurological expertise remains uneven, especially outside large centers.
Findings like these suggest that well-structured teleneurology may help strengthen quality of care, support standardization, and improve stroke management in regions with limited specialist availability.
For colleagues involved in stroke care, neurorehabilitation, telemedicine, and hospital systems development, this paper is well worth reading.”
