Hossam El Benawi: Intensive Blood Pressure Reduction May Worsen Outcomes After Thrombectomy
Hossam El Benawi, Senior Clinical Research Fellow of Cardiovascular Medicine at Mayo Clinic, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, adding:
”Our Analysis does not support intensive systolic blood pressure lowering after successful thrombectomy following ischemic stroke and instead support the use of a standard, permissive (systolic blood pressure <180 mm Hg) management strategy as the current standard of care to optimize patient recovery.
After successful thrombectomy following acute Ischemic Stroke:
- Maintaining systolic BP <180 mm Hg is associated with better outcomes.
- Targeting systolic BP <140 mm Hg after thrombectomy may be harmful – inked to worse functional outcomes at 90 days across the modified Rankin Scale.
All Credits to the talented Ahmed Ibrahim leading this efforts.”
