Sebastian Klapa: Key Findings On Mortality And Cardiovascular Risk In ANCA-Associated Vasculitis
Sebastian Klapa, Specialist in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology at University of Lübeck, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, adding:
“Hot off the press
ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) and the risk of mortality and cardiovascular morbidity.
In our recent paper, which has been accepted by Frontiers-Immunology, we focused on real-world data for mortality and a wide range of cardiovascular diseases in an enlarged cohort of over 20,000 AAV patients over a period of up to 20 years.
For the first time, we were able to compare over 5,000 MPA patients with GPA patients.
Key findings:
- Increased risk of death in AAV patients
- Elevated risk of all screened cardiovascular comorbidities, especially major adverse cardiac events (MACE)
- MPA patients presented an increased risk of MACE and peripheral arterial disease
Be aware of your AAV patients, even those in stable remission.
In addition to symptom-related diagnostics, we may need to regularly screen for cardiovascular diseases.
Many thanks to all the co-authors for their great contributions!”
