Early Heparin in STEMI Care? EHJ Publishes Results of the Groundbreaking HELP-PCI Trial
EHJ Editor-in-Chief (Filippo Crea) posted on X:
”Could administering heparin at first medical contact improve outcomes in STEMI treatment? Read the results of HELP-PCI trial in EHJ.”
The HELP-PCI trial studied 999 STEMI patients undergoing PPCI to compare the timing of UFH administration—at first medical contact (FMC) vs in the Cath Lab.
Patients who received UFH at FMC had significantly better initial coronary blood flow (TFG-3: 23.6% vs 17.6%; OR 1.44; P = .02).
No differences were seen in 12-month MACCE, reperfusion success, or major bleeding.
Early UFH may improve pre-PPCI perfusion without added risk.
