Priscilla Chassama: Expanding Healthcare Access for Children Living with Sickle Cell Disease in Geita
Priscilla Chassama, Project Manager at Tanzania Sicklecell Warriors Organisation (TASIWA), shared a post on LinkedIn:
“As part of our ongoing efforts to improve access to healthcare for children living with sickle cell disease in Geita, we recently conducted an enrollment exercise for more than 70 parents into our health insurance support initiative, a project that will benefit over 300 children.
Through this project, many children have been identified early and linked to timely treatment and care in the health facilities we continue to support and strengthen.
Children diagnosed with sickle cell disease are also benefiting from health insurance support, helping families manage the cost of treatment and improving access to essential healthcare services.
Beyond enrollment, the session also provided an important opportunity to educate parents on sickle cell disease, the importance of birth certificates, and the key documents required throughout the health insurance application process.
Parents also had the opportunity to better understand the importance of health insurance for children living with sickle cell disease, as well as for children without sickle cell disease.
It was also a meaningful moment to connect with parents, share experiences on caregiving, and learn together about better ways to care for and raise children living with sickle cell disease.
We sincerely appreciate the support of Fondation Pierre Fabre for making this initiative possible and for continuing to support efforts toward early diagnosis, access to treatment, and improved quality of life for children living with sickle cell disease in Geita.”
