Luma Mahairi: Social Determinants of Health Across Hematology Shaping The Outcomes
Luma Mahairi, Clinical Research Coordinator III at DM Clinical Research, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article by Bonnie Lu et al, published in Blood Advances, adding:
”New research in Blood Advances highlights how social determinants of health are shaping outcomes across hematology, from access to transplantation and clinical trials to disparities in blood disorders, thrombosis, and hematologic malignancies.
One of the most striking findings: although research on health equity in hematology is growing rapidly, many vulnerable populations remain significantly understudied, including Indigenous communities, people with disabilities, transgender and gender-diverse patients, and immigrants.
The review also emphasizes the future direction of hematology: moving beyond simply documenting disparities toward developing real interventions, improving data collection, expanding donor diversity, and building more equitable systems of care.
As precision medicine and cellular therapies continue to evolve, integrating social and structural determinants into hematology research and clinical practice will be essential for delivering truly personalized care.”
