“Emergency Management of Acute Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack)

In the early management of an acute heart attack, time is critical.

One of the key steps is the use of immediate ‘loading doses’ of antiplatelet therapy to reduce clot progression and improve outcomes.

Common initial medications include:

  • Aspirin: 300 mg (chewed immediately)
  • Clopidogrel: 300–600 mg loading dose (depending on strategy)
  • Ticagrelor: 180 mg loading dose (alternative to clopidogrel)

These are typically combined with anticoagulants and other supportive treatments depending on the clinical setting.

Early recognition and rapid intervention remain the cornerstone of reducing mortality in myocardial infarction.”
