TNFα Role in Body’s Recovery from Anemia of Inflammation
Stefano Rivella, Leader of the RNA Gene Therapeutics group of The Penn Institute for RNA Innovation, shared a post on LinkedIn:
In a preclinical study, researchers at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia discovered that the cytokine tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) plays a key role in aiding the body’s recovery from anemia of inflammation (AI), a blood disorder that can develop following chronic illness or infection.
The study was led by Dr. Amaliris Guerra, a former NIH T32 and Diversity Supplement Postdoctoral Trainee, CHOP Bridge to Faculty Fellow, and NIH Early-Stage Investigator Diversity Supplement Trainee, with co-authorship from Stefano Rivella, PhD, Kwame Ohene-Frempong Endowed Chair in Pediatric Hematology at CHOP.
