Archil Jaliashvili: Biological Hemoglobin Oxygen Carriers as a Bridge in Emergencies
Archil Jaliashvili, Co-Chief Executive Officer at GeoBio Pharm, Biotech Executive, Strategic Partner of BHOC and Precision Oxygen Therapeutics, shared a post on LinkedIn:
”Biological Hemoglobin Oxygen Carriers (BHOCs) – a bridge in emergencies
When donor blood is not available or is not an option – and when conventional blood cannot adequately restore oxygen delivery at the tissue level.
This can happen for different reasons:
- Severe anemia
- Ischemia
- Myocardial infarction
- Stroke and other acute ischemic conditions
- Cardiac arrest
- Severe tissue hypoxia despite conventional treatment
The critical question is therefore not simply:
‘How much blood does the patient have’
It is:
‘Is enough oxygen actually reaching the tissues that need it?’
This is where Biological Hemoglobin Oxygen Carriers (BHOCs) could offer a fundamentally different approach.
- Not replacing blood.
- Not replacing donors.
But providing an additional way to deliver oxygen when donor red cells are unavailable, unsuitable, delayed-or when own blood alone may not be sufficient to oxygenate organs and tissues.
The objective is simple:
Get oxygen where and when it is needed.
And when time matters, create the time needed for definitive treatment. Time is life.”
