Arrigo F.G. Cicero: Bempedoic Acid and Venous Thromboembolism Risk
Arrigo F.G. Cicero, Head of the Clinical Lipidology and Cardiovascular Prevention Laboratory at the University of Bologna, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in JAMA Cardiology, adding:
“Pleased to share our newly published Letter in JAMA Cardiology: ‘Venous Thromboembolism Risk and Lipid-Lowering Therapy.’
Prompted by the intriguing 42% relative reduction in venous thromboembolism observed with bempedoic acid in a post hoc analysis of the CLEAR Outcomes trial, we discuss a broader perspective on lipid-lowering therapy.
Perhaps we should communicate these treatments not simply as a way to ‘lower cholesterol,’ but as part of a broader strategy for vascular protection.
This distinction matters – scientifically, clinically, and also in the way we engage with our patients.”
