Christopher Cannon: Anticoagulation Shows Benefits Even in Low Risk Atrial Fibrillation Patients
Christopher Cannon, Cardiovascular Division at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Daehoon Kim et al, published in The New England Journal of Medicine, adding:
“Single AF benefit of anticoagulation is present in those with CHADs-2Vasc score of 1 (or 2 in women).
Similar 2 out of 3 reduction in stroke and overall CV events (as seen in other trials of higher risk patients) and no increase in bleeding.
Very important trial. Subgroup of AVVEROES had shown this as well but was just a small subgroup.
Now we can more clearly guide patients toward the benefit of anticoagulation even with low number of risk factors.”
