Can Rivaroxaban and Edoxaban Be Used During Breastfeeding? – JTH
Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH) shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Jignesh Patel, adding:
“Can edoxaban and rivaroxaban be prescribed for breastfeeding mothers? The New Horizons clinical trial
Postnatal VTE risk is high, yet many women find injectable low-molecular-weight heparin hard to tolerate.
This phase IV trial measured how two oral anticoagulants pass into breast milk.
Rivaroxaban transferred at low levels (milk:plasma ratio 0.2), while edoxaban mirrored maternal plasma (ratio 0.9).
Modeling predicted low infant exposure for both, with the evidence favoring rivaroxaban as breastfeeding-compatible.”
