Rishabh Jain: Renal Artery FMD Is Managed With Balloon Angioplasty Alone

Rishabh Jain, Intervention Radiologist, shared a post on X:

“A lot of students are getting confused whether the management of Renal Artery stenosis secondary to FMD is Percutaneous balloon angioplasty or angioplasty with stenting.

Answer: Balloon angioplasty alone.

Stenting in FMD has high rates of in stent thrombosis.

Stenting in FMD is reserved as bailout procedure if dissection happens after POBA.

This is unlike RAS secondary to atherosclerosis where primary stenting is the Norm.”
