Chloe Homich: AABB Annual Meetings – Building Connections and Advancing Transfusion Medicine
Chloe Homich, Director, Immunohematology – Blood Bank of Delmarva and Rhode Island Blood Center (NYBCe) at Blood Bank of Delmarva, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“As we count down to AABB 26, with just a week until our sessions begin, I have been reflecting on how AABB and the Annual Meeting have impacted my growth over the years.
My first Annual Meeting was a first for all of us—the 2020 Virtual Annual Meeting.
From ‘Ask the FDA’ to ‘Wizardry School of Antibodies and Antigens,’ I was overjoyed to be learning from the experts as an early career professional.
Connections formed at AABB 20 and AABB 21 encouraged me to pursue an SBB program, sparked my interest in learning about the world of cellular and biotherapies, and, perhaps most importantly, helped me begin to see myself as a part of the AABB community.
AABB 23 was my first in-person meeting, and seeing the connections I had been making virtually for the previous few years in-person was a surreal experience.
From our first selfie 10 minutes before the first session of AABB 23 to creating a session together for AABB 26, Thomas Thompson has been a friend, colleague, and a source of encouragement throughout the years as I continue to learn, grow, and find my place in our field.
Over the years, the AABB annual meeting has allowed me to connect with experts and passionate individuals throughout our industry.
What started as an opportunity to learn and network has grown into lasting friendships, support and guidance from mentors, and opportunities to contribute to our AABB community.
As I put the finishing touches on our presentation and pack my suitcase this weekend, I’m also reflecting on what lies ahead for our field.
The passion, expertise, and collaborative spirit that will come together at AABB 26 represent the best our field has to offer.
In a complicated and tumultuous world, I’m grateful to be a part of a community that continues to learn, connect, and move our field forward for the sake of our donors and patients—and I’m hopeful for what we can accomplish together.
Hope to see you in ATL!”
