Vitor Borin P. de Souza: Think Twice Before Anticoagulating an Isolated Subsegmental PE
Vitor Borin P. de Souza, Researcher at University of São Paulo, Member of the Integrated Evidence Synthesis Center (NISE) research group, shared Tzu-Fei Wang‘s post on X:
“Subsegmental PE has substantial interobserver disagreement on CTPA.
This poor reproducibility raises the possibility that some patients are being anticoagulated for emboli that were never there in the first place.
Evidence supporting anticoagulation is also weak: untreated cohorts estimate recurrence risk, not treatment benefit, while observational comparisons are vulnerable to confounding by indication.
Think twice before anticoagulating an isolated subsegmental PE.”
Tzu-Fei Wang, Associate Professor at University of Ottawa, The Ottawa Hospital, shared a post on X about a recent article she and her colleages co-authored, published in JTH in Clinic, adding:
“To anticoagulate or not to anticoagulate?
Subsegmental PE remains a clinical challenge!”
