Chedia Aroua: When Pharmacokinetics Meets Geophysics – Finding Unlikely Connections in Hemophilia Care

Chedia Aroua, Geophysicist Ingeneer at ETAP, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Who else sees a connection between hemophilia treatment and geophysics?

Today, during a scientific workshop on emicizumab for the treatment of hemophilia, one slide caught my attention: peaks and troughs, illustrating the fluctuations in FVIII levels following regular infusions.

As a geophysicist, I couldn’t help drawing a connection with my own professional world!

In geophysics, we analyze variations, interpret signals, and try to understand what lies beneath the data. In hemophilia care, we also seek to understand variations in hemostatic activity and their impact on patient protection.

Of course, the underlying scientific mechanisms are different, but the reasoning has something in common: understanding variations to better anticipate and make informed decisions.

And just like that, a pharmacokinetic curve became, in my mind, almost a seismic trace!

Who would have thought that petroleum exploration geophysics and hemophilia care could share such an interesting intellectual connection?

Science has a wonderful way of building bridges between disciplines that seem worlds apart.”
