Ruchika Goel: Cord Blood Red Blood Cells as a Physiologically Aligned Transfusion Strategy

Ruchika Goel, Professor Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, Assoc Vice Chair of Research, Dept of IM at SIU School of Medicine, Adjunct Faculty at Johns Hopkins Medicine, shared Satyam Arora‘s post on LinkedIn:

“Online now in Transfusion!

Reimagining the future of neonatal transfusion: Cord Blood RBCs as a physiologically aligned transfusion strategy!

With Dr Satyam Arora, Cassandra Josephson, Luciana Teofili, Elise Huisman, Jip van Daelen. Also, exceptional work by Claudio Pellegrino in the area!”

Satyam Arora, Regional Director for South East Asia at the International Society of Blood Transfusion, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleages co-authored, published in Transfusion, adding:

“Reimagining the future of neonatal transfusion with Ruchika Goel, Cassandra Josephson, Luciana Teofili, Jip van Daelen, Elise Huisman!

Our recent work in Transfusion explores the potential of umbilical cord red blood cells for very premature neonates—bringing developmental biology and transfusion physiology together.

The next step is not just generating evidence, but building collaborations across neonatology, transfusion medicine, cord blood banking, haematology and basic science.

From cord to cradle, innovation in neonatal transfusion will require us to rethink how we collect, process and select blood for our smallest patients.”
