Michele Brenner: A Personal Tragedy That Highlights the Urgency of DVT Awareness

Michele Brenner, Principal, Consumer Insights and Strategic Marketing Consultant at Brenner Brand Marketing, shared National Blood Clot Alliance‘s post on LinkedIn:

“It’s a matter of life and death. If my husband and I knew the signs and symptoms of deep vein thrombosis a decade ago we wouldn’t have lost him to a massive saddle pulmonary embolism.

I wish beyond words that I had known leg swelling with tightness and pain was something to demand immediate care for.

We were on the phone with healthcare specialists that morning who were happy to leave it at imaging his leg when we got to the hospital as planned that afternoon.

When my husband got up to go to the hospital the clot moved from his leg to his chest and took the life of a vibrant, funny, kind, loving husband and father of three children 14, 11 and 8 years old.

We had no idea what we were in for that day.

Patient and caregiver advocacy are an absolute must.

I hope sharing our experience will save someone else from going through this kind of tragedy.”

National Blood Clot Alliance shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Today is World Thrombosis Day. Together, we’re taking steps to Stop the Clot.

Every year, an estimated 900,000 Americans are affected by blood clots, and as many as 100,000 lose their lives. Behind every number is a person, a family, and a story that matters.

This World Thrombosis Day, we honor those we’ve lost, stand alongside survivors, and recognize the advocates, healthcare professionals, and families working to build a future where fewer lives are lost or forever changed by blood clots.

And this year, we’re turning awareness into action.

Our Race to Stop the Clot Virtual Fun Run is happening now through October 17, bringing people together across the country to walk, run, raise awareness, and support the blood clot community.

Whether you’re a survivor celebrating how far you’ve come, walking in memory of someone you love, or simply taking steps toward a future free from preventable blood clots, there’s a place for you.

On World Thrombosis Day, we invite you to take action.

Learn the signs and symptoms. Share information that could save a life. Or lace up your sneakers and join us.

Because every step toward greater awareness matters.

Together, we can stop the clot.

Learn more and join the Fun Run.”
