Jill de Mol։ Rapamycin Modulates Immune Responses in Aged Atherosclerosis

Jill de Mol, Postdoctoraal research fellow – ‘Aging and Immunity’ at Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Aging Cell, adding:

”New paper out in Aging Cell!

After many hours of digging into the immune landscape of aged atherosclerotic mice, our work on rapamycin and immune responses in atherosclerosis is now published!

In this study, we investigated how rapamycin treatment affects the immune system in aged mice with established atherosclerosis. We found that rapamycin reduced plaque macrophage content and reshaped both T-cell and B-cell responses, including an increase in regulatory T-cell features and a reduction in age-associated B cells.

Our findings provide new insights into how rapamycin modulates immune responses in aged atherosclerotic mice and highlight interesting avenues for further research into immune-targeted therapies.

A big thank you to all my co-authors and collaborators who contributed to this work!”
