Maha Othman: Students Lead World Thrombosis Day 2026 Awareness Events

Maha Othman, Co-Chairman SSC on Disseminated intravascular coagulopathy at International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis, shared ISTH’s post on LinkedIn:

”Celebrating World Thrombosis Day 2026 with an inspiring group of my students and mentees from St. Lawrence College and Queen’s University !

This year, our students took the lead in planning and delivering two World Thrombosis Day awareness events—October 7 at the Queen’s JDUC and October 13 at SLC—bringing important messages about blood clots, risk factors, warning signs, and prevention directly to our campus communities.

What made this initiative particularly meaningful was the cross-institutional collaboration. Students from different programs and stages of training worked together not simply as learners, but as health advocates and knowledge translators, turning what they learn in classrooms and research into accessible health information for others.

A big congratulations and thank you to our team leads:

SLC: Jayan Anpalahan Jordan Harry Liam Vickery Jayden Colligan.

A big thank you to SLC Student Association President Jonathan Hauth for facilitating the SLC event.

Queens U: Sarah K. Faith Whitehead, Zein Hammad Aditi Kini Yousra Tera

I am very proud of all my mentees seeing their leadership, teamwork, and commitment to community education in action.

Special thanks to Thrombosis Canada for supporting our initiative and the important work of raising thrombosis awareness across Canada.

Learning beyond the classroom.

Collaborating across institutions.

Making an impact in our communities.”
