Arianne Missimer: Understanding Ferritin Levels Beyond the Normal Range
Arianne Missimer, Founder and CEO The Movement Paradigm Downingtown, PA shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Your ferritin level may be within the lab’s reference range, but does that mean your iron stores are optimal?
Ferritin helps assess your body’s iron stores. When it’s low, iron deficiency may be present even before anemia develops.
So, what ferritin level should you aim for?
You may hear that ferritin should be 50 ng mL or higher. Some discussions of optimal levels extend to 150 ng mL.
However, these numbers are not universal targets for everyone, and higher isn’t automatically better.
Your symptoms, hemoglobin, risk factors, medical history, and overall clinical picture all matter when interpreting your results.
If you’ve been dealing with fatigue or other symptoms and your labs were labeled “normal,” it may be worth having a conversation with your healthcare provider about your iron status.
Look beyond the number. Understand the whole picture.
Save this post for your next lab review, and share it with someone who wants to better understand their iron levels.
