Javier M. Floren: When Immune Cells Move With Their Environment

Javier M. Floren, Founder and CEO of 3DforScience.com and ScienceStory, Member of The Health House, Co-Founder of Dnaverse – Mixing human genetics with NFTs for the metaverse, shared a post on LinkedIn:

”Those little red dots are some of the earliest immune cells developing in a frog embryo.

And what I find fascinating is that they’re not simply moving through the tissue independently.

The tissue itself is moving too.

As the embryo develops and the surrounding tissue spreads, these immune cells sense that movement, reorganize themselves and actively migrate with it.

It almost feels like watching a crowd move through a city that is being built at the same time.

The cells are moving.

Their environment is moving. And somehow they coordinate.

I think this is one of those beautiful reminders that biology rarely happens in isolation.

We often study a cell, a receptor, a pathway or a mechanism as if we could draw a box around it.

But the body doesn’t have boxes.

Everything is happening together. Chemical signals, physical forces, movement, structure, time.

And when you can actually see it happening, even something incredibly complex starts to feel intuitive.

This is why I love scientific visualization so much.

Sometimes understanding science starts simply by being able to watch it.”
